      Overview
      Over the last two years, the FCC and various regulatory agencies have implemented a series of regulations that require service providers like Skyetel to collect information about their customers. We are required to collect this information in order to protect the PSTN from the spread of illegal robocalling and fraud. We understand that these questions are intrusive... and annoying..., so it is important for us to explain their purpose, and understand the steps we’ll take to protect your confidential information.


      Your Privacy
      TL;DR - Your responses are not shared with any third party, including any federal or state government. We do not report this information to any federal or state agencies, and the answers to these questions do not impact your company’s relationship with Skyetel in any way.

      There are few things about your privacy that you should know:

    • We do not provide access to this information to any third parties. Period. No One. Zilch. Nada.
    • The information we are collecting is solely for Skyetel’s compliance requirements. They do not have any impact on your businesses compliance requirements.
    • The information we are collecting is only accessible to a very small number of team members. Our sales, marketing, and noc do not have access to this information.
    • We are required to have this information as part of being a regulated telecommunications carrier, but are not required to disclose it to anyone.

    • Why Is This Information Collected?
      Over the last decade, robocalling and fraud have existed because larger carriers were able to say “We do not know anything about our customers, or what they do on our platform.” To combat these illegal activities, the FTC and FCC have used Stir/Shaken to put an end to that convenient ignorance and hold all carriers accountable for the kind of phone traffic they carry.

      Therefore, in addition to Stir/Shaken tokens that carriers are required to send (where carriers “sign” every call that goes over their network), they also need to understand what their customers are doing on their network, and why. This holds all carriers accountable to the FCC and FTC should they find that they were using their network to actively aid robocalling and fraudsters.

      Since Skyetel is a carrier, we are obligated to those accountability rules too; and therefore are required to ask these questions of you. It is important to reiterate that this information is only for Skyetel to be compliant with our regulatory requirements. The information we are asking for is strictly confidential, and protected under very strict customer privacy laws.

      Business Activities

      This information is used so that we can understand what kind of end users are ultimately being served by the Skyetel Network. We need to know what percentage of our ultimate end users (the people with the desk phones) are small businesses vs wholesale, what percentage of our traffic is coming from overseas, how much of our traffic is done via automated calling software, etc.

      ITG and TSR Compliance

      The “Industry Traceback Group” or ITG is the organization responsible for tracing back robocallers and fraudsters. The ITG typically only deals with very large voice service providers (like Skyetel) or people doing things illegally.

      If you have never heard of the ITG, that's a good thing - it means that your company is processing its traffic compliantly, and isn’t doing anything shady. Nice work!
      * If you have never received a traceback request, do you intend on responding to ITG Traceback Requests? (Please note an ITG Traceback Request is a law enforcement request.)

      Robocall Mitigation and Stir/Shaken Implemenation
